Looks like someone took a wrong turn at Flavortown.
Two trucks loaded with 24,240 bottles of Santo Tequila — the label co-owned by celebrity chef Guy Fieri and former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar — went missing last weekend following an apparent heist in Laredo, Texas.
It took 39 months to make all that tequila, which was valued at $1 million, reports PEOPLE.com, which spoke to Fieri about the appropriated alcohol.
“We’ve worked so hard,” said Fieri. “This is our best year we’ve ever had in Santo. We just had all this momentum, and now, whatever’s on the shelf is all people are going to get.”
The two trucks hauling 440 combined cases of Santo were hijacked on either Nov. 9 or Nov. 10, the Food Network star added.
He and his “Red Rocker” partner only learned about the shanghaied trucks on Thursday.
Fieri said it comes at a terrible time: The holiday season is typically Santo’s busiest time.
Fieri said it is possible “someone could be trying to break the momentum” Santo has been gaining in the market.
Taking two trucks, and not just the one, also gave the goateed chef pause.
“I mean, one is one. But now you’ve got to have double the amount of people to pull off the double heist,” Fieri said. “It just seems so much riskier to take two trucks.”
Laredo police, Los Angeles’ Cargo Criminal Apprehension Team and a federal organization called CargoNet are investigating the incident, the outlet also reported.
Fieri has put up a $10,000 reward for information about the heist.
“It’s like a movie,” he said. “I never in a million years thought this was coming down the pike like this, but it’s real.”
