It was a crisp autumn evening, the kind where the air is cool but not too cold, and the leaves have just begun to change colors. The TV was tuned to the late-night channel, where the movie would air just after 10 PM. My mom was sitting next to me, her hand lightly resting on my shoulder, a mix of concern and pride in her gaze.
