- The musician told ELLE UK she’s experienced moments both “beautiful and amazing” and “brutal and violent”
- Twigs settled her sexual assault lawsuit against Shia LeBeouf in July
FKA twigs is opening up about how she’s come to better understand the balance of life’s ups and downs in recent months.
The British singer-songwriter, 37, covered the February issue of ELLE UK (on sale now), and spoke about how as she reaches her late 30s, she’s experienced moments both “beautiful and amazing” and “really brutal and violent.”
“I’m reaching that age where I can really look back at my life and I can see so many things that have been beautiful and amazing, and other things that have been really brutal and violent,” she said. “I’m realizing that I can hold my love of life and my artistry and the beauty of my life, and I can also hold the brutality and the sadness and the violence. I can hold things at the same time, and that feels really good.”
Twigs, who released two albums in 2025, went on to compare life to a raspberry, saying it’s “bitter but it’s sweet.”

The musician (né Tahliah Debrett Barnett) has been open in the past about allegedly experiencing violence in her relationship with actor Shia LaBeouf, whom she sued in December 2020 on claims of “relentless” sexual and physical assault, and for knowingly giving her a sexually transmitted disease. The suit was dismissed in July.
The Transformers star denied “each and every allegation” in twigs’ complaint, but admitted he had a “history of hurting the people closest” to him in a statement shared with The New York Times.
“I’m not in any position to tell anyone how my behavior made them feel,” he said. “I have no excuses for my alcoholism or aggression, only rationalizations. I have been abusive to myself and everyone around me for years. I have a history of hurting the people closest to me. I’m ashamed of that history and am sorry to those I hurt. There is nothing else I can really say.”
She filed to dismiss the lawsuit in July, and the former couple settled for an undisclosed amount ahead of a trial that was scheduled for September.

“Committed to forging a constructive path forward, we have agreed to settle our case out of court,” LaBeouf, 39 and the singer-songwriter said in a joint statement provided to PEOPLE by their respective attorneys. “While the details of the settlement will remain private, we wish each other personal happiness, professional success and peace in the future.”
In October, she told The Hollywood Reporter that she was “looking forward” and “moving on with” her life by getting involved in organizations dedicated to raising awareness about domestic abuse and sexual violence.
Twigs has been dating filmmaker Jordan Hemingway since 2023, and told ELLE UK that working together — he shot the music videos for her Eusexua and Eusexua Afterglow albums — is “the best feeling in the world, because it’s constantly stimulating in the best way, and it’s really low drama.”
She also told the outlet that she does not think of herself as a famous person, and would prefer things be centered around her work.
“The most interesting part of me is what I do. It’s not who I am. I’m not a pop star. And I don’t want to be regarded in that way,” she said.
