
Seattle police arrested a 48-year-old woman after she kidnapped a 1 1/2-year-old girl in South Seattle this afternoon.
At 2:46 p.m. patrol officers responded to reports of a child abduction from a daycare in the 9300 block of Rainier Avenue South.
The suspect is known to the child’s mother and fled the area with the child in a gray sports car.
Seattle police officers coordinated search efforts with multiple law enforcement agencies, and tracked the suspect to Pacific Highway South and South 324th Street in Federal Way.
When Federal Way Police officers located the vehicle, the suspect ran away from police on foot. Officers apprehended her shortly after and arrested her.
They safely rescued the child at about 5:45 p.m.
Police transported the suspect to the Federal Way police station. Shortly thereafter, Seattle police took custody of her.
Officers will book her into the King County Jail after she is interviewed by detectives at Seattle Police Headquarters.
Seattle police returned the child to her family at the SPD South Precinct.
The circumstances leading up to the kidnapping are under investigation by detectives.
