Sherri Rae Rasmussen

Stephanie Lazarus has a parole hearing coming up next month. She was approved for parole the first time she was up but it was rescinded. However, I would like to see, for her victim’s family and loved ones sake, her community, and justice, that she not get out yet. Personally, I don’t believe she should ever be released. She killed Sherri because she married the man that Stephanie had previously dated and Stephanie did not like that. Then she became a cop. For 25 years she was a law enforcement officer, knowing she had murdered this innocent woman and she carried on like she was such a good citizen. Nope. She needs to complete the life sentence. If you would like to join me, I am sending in a letter of opposition to her parole. I have written up a sample one that anyone can copy and paste to use. You can use it for any parole opposition you want, but you will need to change the details. I am going to try to post more of this. I have just gotten really behind on them since I had been sick so much the last couple of years. You can email it in. The email will be listed. I really hope some of you will do this. Sherri’s loved ones deserve this.

If you want to send an email to the California Parole Board giving your opinion on this, here is the email address:

Re: Parole Hearing for Stephanie Ilene Lazarus, Offender Number: #WE4479

Please DO NOT grant parole to Stephanie Ilene Lazarus, CDC Number: #WE4479. As a concerned citizen, I am writing to protest the projected parole of this convicted murderer.

On February 24, 1986, Stephanie Ilene Lazarus beat and shot Sherri Rasmussen to death in her apartment where she lived with her husband, John Ruetten. Lazarus had previously dated Ruetten and was upset that he had married Rasmussen and she wanted Rasmussen out of the way. The case, however, went cold until 2009 when DNA caught up with the evidence. Lazarus was convicted from DNA left on Rasmussen’s body in a bite that she left and she was sentenced to 27 years to life in prison. Her conviction was upheld on appeal.

The heinous nature of the murder should preclude any consideration of parole for Stephanie Lazarus. The fact that she also became a law enforcement officer after having committed the murder shows that she has no regard for human life. In her parole hearing in 2023, she confessed to having committed the murder. For this heinous crime, she was sentenced to 27 years to life in prison but she sentenced Sherri Rasmussen’s family and friends to a lifetime of grief and sorrow.

In the interests of justice, public safety, and to lessen the emotional trauma for the victim’s family, please consider giving Stephanie Lazarus a longer set off before any future parole reviews.

Thank you for your consideration,

Sincerely,
