WHAT’S COVERED IN THIS GUIDE?

Things to Do in Naha

1. Kokusai-dori

Regarded as the city’s main tourist hub, Kokusai-dori (International Street) is the main artery of downtown Naha. Stretching 1.6 kilometers, it’s flanked by restaurants, bars, cafés, hotels, souvenir stores, and shopping centers, including the ever-popular discount chain Don Quijote (Donki).

Branching from Kokusai Street are other smaller souvenir shops and food spots housed in Heiwa Shopping Avenue (Heiwadori) and Shijo Hondori, a couple of covered shopping arcades.

Address: Kokusai-dori, Naha City, Okinawa, Japan
How to Get to Kokusai-dori: From Naha Cruise Terminal, you can take a taxi. But if you are on a budget, make your way to Kume Koshibyo-mae Bus Stop (across Matsuyama Park), which is a 10-minute walk from the port. Take Bus 5 or 15 to Kokusai Dori Bus Stop (JPY 260).

2. Shuri Castle

Explore the historic Shuri Castle, Naha’s most iconic landmark and the former seat of the Ryukyu Kingdom from the 14th to the 19th century. Although it has been razed by fire on several occasions, including during World War II (the Battle of Okinawa) and most recently in 2019, the castle still serves as a poignant reminder of Okinawa’s rich history and culture.

Restoration efforts are ongoing, with the castle’s reopening slated for fall 2026. In the meantime, you can still visit and appreciate the castle park grounds. Shuri Castle is part of the Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu, which gained a UNESCO World Heritage status.

Address: Shurijo Castle Park, 1-2 Kinjocho Shuri, Naha City, Okinawa, Japan
Opening Hours: Daily, 8:00 AM – 7:30 PM (April-June/October-November); 8:00 AM – 8:30 PM (July-September); 8:00 AM – 6:30 PM (December-March)
Entrance Fee: Adults, JPY 400; Students, JPY 160-300; Children (Below 6 y/o), FREE
How to Get to Shuri Castle: From Kokusai-dori, take Bus 14 to Shuri Castle Bus Stop (JPY 240). Travel time is 15-20 minutes.

3. Shikina-en Royal Garden

Built in the late 18th century, Shikina-en Royal Garden was once used as the second home of the Ryukyu royal family. The buildings and structures showcase architectural styles and designs that reflect both Japanese and Chinese influences.

The focal point of the lush circular garden is the pond, dotted with stone bridges and Rokkakudo, a quaint Chinese-style pavilion. Overlooking the pond is Udun, the wooden statehouse with a red-tiled roof. The Shikina-en Garden is also part of the UNESCO-recognized Gusuku Sites and Related Properties of the Kingdom of Ryukyu.

How to Get to Shikina-en Royal Garden: From Kokusai-dori Bus Stop, take Bus 5 to Shikinaen Bus Stop (JPY 260). The travel time is 20 minutes.

4. Okinawa Soba

While in Naha, make sure to try Okinawa’s comfort food — soba. Unlike the soba found in mainland Japan, which is made from buckwheat, Okinawa soba uses wheat flour. Its noodles are much thicker and typically served in a flavorful broth made with pork, seaweed, and bonito flakes. The usual toppings are fish cake, scallions, pickled ginger, and braised pork belly.

But there’s a popular variation called soki soba, which swaps the pork belly for stewed pork spare ribs. We tried both versions at Kintiti (Kinchichi) Soba Kokusaidori Mutsumi Shokudo, just a short walk from Kokusai-dori. I had the Sanmainikumori Okinawa Soba (Pork Belly Okinawa Soba), while Yosh ordered the Hon Soki Soba (Pork Spare Ribs Soba), which is limited to only 15 servings per day.

If you’re more of a ramen fan, you can check out Ramen Danbo Naha Makishi, conveniently located near JR Kyushu Hotel Blossom in the Kokusai-dori area.

5. Blue Seal Ice Cream

“Born in America, Raised in Okinawa”

While its origins date back to 1948, when US military troops stationed in Japan sourced milk and dairy products from Okinawa, Blue Seal Ice Cream is proudly an Okinawan brand. Today, you’ll find its shops scattered across Naha, with several branches strategically located along Kokusai Dori.

It offers an impressive selection of flavors grouped into Okinawan, American, Blue Seal Standard, and Allergy-Friendly categories. According to their official website, the top five flavors are Okinawan Salt Cookies, Blue Wave, Vanilla & Cookies, San Francisco Mint Chocolate, and Almond Pistachio.

We stopped by one of the branches along Kokusai-dori to sample a few flavors. I went for a single scoop of Ryukyu Tea Warabi Mochi, while Yosh enjoyed a double scoop — Salty Caramel & Apple and Okinawan Pineapple Coconut.

Price: Single Scoop, JPY 390-400; Double Scoop, JPY 650-670

6. Okinawa Peace Park Memorial

Situated in Itoman, a neighboring city south of Naha, the Okinawa Peace Memorial Park honors the lives lost during the Battle of Okinawa in 1945. Perched on Mabuni Hill, this vast park serves as a powerful reminder of the island’s resilience, the atrocities of war, and the importance of valuing peace.

8. Umikaji Terrace

The cluster of whitewashed buildings cascading across four levels of the sloping terrain evokes a distinctly Mediterranean feel. Lined with shops, cafés, and restaurants, Umikaji Terrace draws a steady stream of visitors, especially those heading to the airport, looking to squeeze in some last-minute souvenir shopping or a final hurrah before leaving the island. Many of the dining and hangout spots feature patios that look out toward the beach. The best time to visit is late afternoon to catch the day’s final glow.

Umikaji Terrace Naha OkinawaUmikaji Terrace Naha Okinawa

It is located in Senaga, a small outlying island connected by Senagajima Kaichu Road to the mainland. It is also linked to the airport’s East runway by two access roads, though these are not open to the public. Travel time between the island and the airport is about 15 minutes.

Address: Umikaji Terrace, 174-6 Senaga Island, Tomigusuku, Okinawa, Japan
Opening Hours: Daily, 10:00 AM – 8:00 PM
How to Get to Umikaji Terrace: From Kokusai Dori, head to Miebashi Station. This monorail station is near Ramen Danbo Naha Makishi. Get on a monorail to Akamine Station (JPY 290, 12 mins). From there, you can take a bus to Senaga Island, and get off at the Umikaji Terrace Bus Stop. If you prefer convenience, the most direct option from Kokusai Dori is to take a taxi. The travel time is around 25 minutes.

9. Senaga Nishi Beach

From Umikaji Terrace, there are walkways leading to Senaga Nishi Beach. Along the way, you’ll pass by the sprawling Sunset Park, a favorite spot among locals and tourists for sunset viewing.

Even if you’re not an aviation enthusiast, there is something undeniably thrilling about watching airplanes descend and lift off as you stroll along the beach. Located on Senaga Island, this laidback stretch offers views of the seascape and the nearby airport, an appealing combination of natural scenery and modern convenience.

Running parallel to the beach is the Seaside Nature Park, featuring verdant walking paths. Near the southern end of the beach, you’ll come across a replica of Kodakara Iwa Rock, also called the Child Blessing Rock. According to local belief, if a couple tosses a stone and it lands in the lower hole, they will be blessed with a girl; if it lands in the upper hole, a boy.

How to Get to Senaga Nishi Beach: From Umikaji Terrace, follow the walking paths to the beach.

10. Naminoue Shrine & Beach

Naminoue Shrine Naha OkinawaNaminoue Shrine Naha Okinawa

Perched on a cliff overlooking the beach is Naha’s highly revered Shinto shrine. Locals and devotees come to Naminoue Shrine to pray for safe journeys, good harvests, and a bountiful catch. It is also recognized as one of the country’s nationally significant shrines.

Naminoue Beach Naha OkinawaNaminoue Beach Naha Okinawa

After visiting the shrine, you can easily make your way down to the Naminoue Beach by taking a short walk on either side of the shrine. If you choose the path on the right side, use the Asahigaoka Park Basketball Court as your landmark. Alternatively, you can head down from the shrine’s main entrance and follow the street toward the shore.

If you don’t mind a bit of walking, both the shrine and the beach are just about 10 minutes from the Naha Cruise Terminal 1.

Address: Naminoue Shrine, 1 Chome-25-11 Wakasa, Naha City, Okinawa, Japan
Opening Hours: Daily, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM
How to Get to Naminoue Shrine & Beach: Upon exiting Naha Cruise Terminal 1, make your way toward the main road, then turn right. At the intersection, cross the street to Nominoue Beach Square, then continue walking toward the beach and up to the shrine.

Sample Naha Day Trip Itinerary

You can’t visit all if you’re on a cruise because you’ll most likely be given only a day, usually 8-10 hours. To maximize your time, it’s best to focus on Naha’s highlights. Here’s a sample itinerary you can follow:

10:00 AM – Walk to Kume Koshibyo-mae Bus Stop
10:25 AM – Bus to Shikinaen mae (Kitagawa), ¥260 (Bus 5)
10:52 AM – Shikina-en Royal Garden, ¥400
11:30 AM – Bus to Asato, ¥260 (Bus 5)
12:05 PM – Bus to Shurijo Koen Iriguchi, ¥260 (Bus 346)
12:15 PM – Shuri Castle, ¥400
01:12 PM – Bus from Tohotori to Makishi, ¥260 (Bus 346)
01:30 PM – Kokusai Dori: Food Trip and Shopping, ¥2000
04:44 PM – Bus 5 back to port then walk, ¥260 (Or taxi to Naha Cruise Terminal, ¥1200-1500)
05:10 PM – Back to the ship

If you are a party of two, this itinerary will cost you around ¥4100 (USD 27, PHP 1582) each, including your lunch and ice cream, but excluding your shopping budget.

DIY vs Shorex Tour

We’ve visited Okinawa through three cruise lines — StarCruises, Royal Caribbean, and Costa Serena. Whichever cruise line you are sailing with, you’ll have two ways to explore at every port of call:

  • D-I-Y. If you’d rather explore at your own pace, you can go for a D-I-Y trip. This option gives you full control over your itinerary and is often more budget-friendly. Just make sure to manage your time carefully because the ship will leave as scheduled, with or without you. It’s always safer to return to the port early to avoid being left behind.
  • SHOREX TOUR. These are group tours arranged by the cruise companies in partnership with local tour operators. Everything is taken care of — transportation, itinerary, and usually lunch. All you need to do is show up on time. Pre-booking a shore excursion is cheaper than those sold on board. Shorex Desk is on Decks 4 and 5.

No matter which option you choose, you’ll receive essential details before getting off, including return instructions, port name, and port address. Don’t forget to bring a photocopy of your passport’s biopage, too.

[ad_1]

You’ve finalized the proposal, secured internal approvals, and sent it to the client. The deal is almost closed. Then someone notices the issue — outdated pricing, a formatting issue, or a clause pulled from the wrong template.

At this stage, even small errors can create major problems. When contracts are tied directly to revenue, compliance, and brand credibility, inconsistencies or outdated information can slow approvals, trigger unnecessary revisions, or even put the deal at risk.

Situations like this are exactly why many organizations are moving away from manual document workflows and adopting dedicated document generation software.

The shift is happening quickly. Recent estimates place the global document generation software market at around USD 3.0 billion in 2026, with forecasts projecting continued double-digit growth over the next decade. This growth is largely fueled by digital transformation initiatives and a rising demand for automation that can reduce errors and accelerate business workflows.

With the right platform in place, teams can ensure automated accuracy, standardized templates, secure encryption, real-time collaboration, and seamless workflow integrations. The result is simple: when a document goes out the door, you know it’s compliant, polished, and ready to close.

To help you evaluate your options, here are the best document generation software platforms available today, comparing their automation capabilities, integrations, security features, and scalability so you can choose the right solution for your team.

A teen was stabbed during a clash on board a rush-hour train passing through the East Village on Thursday morning, cops said.

The 19-year-old victim was knifed in the leg on the uptown L train at the First Avenue and East 14th Station around 8:10 a.m., authorities said.

The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he is in stable condition, police said.

The 19-year-old victim was stabbed in the leg around 8:10 a.m. on board an uptown L train at the 1st Avenue and East 14th Station, police said.

A person of interest was swiftly taken into custody with charges pending, cops said.

The attack stemmed from a skirmish between the two straphangers, authorities said, but it was not immediately clear what sparked the fight.

The mayhem came just over a week after a bigoted subway mugger shook a Muslim woman, threw her to the ground and ominously taunted her over Mayor Zohran Mamdani in Brooklyn, according to cops and sources.

The assailant remains at large in the March 17 attack, which is being investigated by the NYPD’s Hate Crimes Task Force.

It also comes weeks after an illegal migrant allegedly shoved two men onto Upper East Side subway tracks — including 83-year-old US Air Force veteran Richard Williams, who has since succumbed to his injuries.

Honduran national Bairon Hernandez, 34, was arrested March 10 — and his charges have been upgraded to murder following Williams’ death, court records show.

'True Detective' Season 5: Updates on the Cast, Release Date, Location & More

It’s been two years since season 4 of HBO’s hit crime anthology series True Detective premiered, and the demand for a fifth season has grown. The previous season, titled Night Country, starred Jodie Foster and Kali Reis as the lead detectives in Alaska.

As reports of a 2027 release date swirl, fans of the show are wondering when they can finally watch season 5 and who play the new detectives.

Hollywood Life has the latest updates on the fifth season of True Detective below.

When Is Season 5 of True Detective Coming Out?

At the time of publication, HBO has yet to announce when production will commence on season 5. Therefore, an exact release date has yet to be determined, but season 5 is expected to be released sometime in 2027.

Who Is in the True Detective Season 5 Cast?

No cast member has been confirmed for season 5 of True Detective yet, but reports surfaced in 2025 about Nicolas Cage being tapped to lead the season. Per Variety, Cage was “nearing a deal” to star in the show.

Where Will True Detective Season 5 Take Place?

Multiple outlets reported in 2025 that season 5 of True Detective will take place in Jamaica Bay, New York, which is an estuary on the southern portion of western Long Island.

Speaking with Deadline in February 2025, HBO’s head of drama series, Francesca Orsi, confirmed that season 5 will take place in New York. Issa López will return to direct season 5.

“Issa has a lot to say, not unlike she did with Night Country,” Orsi told Deadline. “It’s a different milieu but just as powerful.”

During a December 2024 interview with The New York Post, López teased that season 5 would have some “connections” to season 4, even with a fresh cast.

“There’s going to be some important connections between everything that happens in Ennis, Alaska, and the characters in Ennis, Alaska, and what happens in the new [season].” López said. “That said, it’s a new story, new characters, everything. There’s a little bit of joy for the fans of Night Country.”

Eggs Florentine Recipe – Love and Lemons

0

[ad_1]

This eggs Florentine recipe consists of poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, and sautéed spinach on a toasted English muffin. It’s a delicious brunch!

Eggs Florentine

This classic eggs Florentine recipe is a restaurant-worthy brunch dish that you can make at home! A fresher spin on eggs Benedict, it consists of poached eggs, creamy homemade hollandaise sauce, and silky sautéed spinach on a toasted English muffin (no Canadian bacon here!). I garnish mine with a sprinkle of chives to take it over the top.

While I might turn to breakfast casserole or cinnamon rolls when I’m making brunch for a crowd, this eggs Florentine recipe is a show-stopping option for a smaller group. Jack and I love it as a special Sunday morning breakfast, and it’s also great for holidays with 2 to 4 people at the table. I think it’s especially perfect for spring—the spinach and herbs make it feel so vibrant.

Poaching eggs and making hollandaise sauce might sound fussy, but don’t let that stop you from trying this delicious recipe! They’re surprisingly simple, and I’m sharing my best tips for mastering both below. Trust me, you’ve got this!

Recipe ingredients: spinach, eggs, English muffins, lemon, mustard, butter, cayenne pepper, and chives

How to Make Eggs Florentine

This recipe has 4 simple steps:

Step 1: Make the hollandaise sauce.

This classic French sauce is rich and bright, made with melted butter, egg yolks, lemon juice, cayenne pepper, and salt. I also add a little Dijon mustard to mine for a nice tangy kick.

Traditionally, you’d make it on the stovetop, but I’ve found that it’s much easier to make in the blender because the sauce is less likely to split.

Blend together the egg yolks, lemon, cayenne, mustard, and salt until frothy. Melt the butter on the stovetop, then gradually pour it into the egg mixture with the blender running.

Two tips:

  • Add the melted butter gradually. If you pour it in too quickly, the sauce could split.
  • Make sure the butter is hot. It will lightly cook the egg yolks and thicken the sauce.

See my hollandaise sauce recipe for more helpful tips!

Step 2: Sauté the spinach.

Cook it in olive oil with garlic, salt, and pepper until it’s just wilted.

Tip: If all the raw spinach won’t fit in your pan at once, add it in batches.

Sautéed spinach in skillet

Step 3: Poach the eggs.

Bring a medium pot of water to a gentle boil. As it heats, crack the eggs into separate small bowls or ramekins.

Add a splash of white vinegar or white wine vinegar to the water and stir so that it moves in a circular motion. Gently drop four of the eggs into the water, give it another gentle stir and simmer for 3 minutes 30 seconds to 4 minutes, or until the eggs are cooked to your liking. Scoop them out of the water with a slotted spoon, and repeat with the remaining eggs.

Two tips:

  • Work in batches. For evenly cooked, intact poached eggs, I don’t recommend cooking more than 4 at a time. If it’s your first time poaching eggs, you may want to start by just cooking 2 at once and work up from there.
  • Don’t skip the vinegar. It helps the egg whites coagulate in the water.

Step 4: Assemble and serve.

Halve and toast the English muffins, then top each half with sautéed spinach and a poached egg. Season the eggs with salt and pepper.

Drizzle with hollandaise sauce, garnish with chives, and serve!

Make-Ahead Tips

If you’d like to get ahead on this eggs Florentine recipe, you can make the hollandaise sauce up to 1 day ahead.

Store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator until ready to serve. Reheat gently over very low heat in a saucepan on the stovetop, or warm it in a double boiler.

Any leftover sauce will keep in the fridge for 2 days. For longer storage, freeze it.

  • Make the hollandaise sauce: In a blender, place the egg yolks, lemon juice, mustard, salt, and cayenne. Blend for 5 to 15 seconds, or until the mixture is frothy.

  • Place the butter in a small pot over medium-low heat. Cook, stirring, until melted. Transfer the melted butter to a glass liquid measuring cup so that it’s easy to pour. With the blender running on low, slowly pour in the hot butter, blending until the sauce is emulsified. The sauce should have a thick but pourable consistency. If it’s too thick, blend in hot water, 1 tablespoon at a time, to loosen it. Set aside.

  • Cook the spinach: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the garlic and cook for 30 seconds, or until fragrant but not at all browned. Add the spinach, salt, and several grinds of pepper and cook, tossing, for 1 to 2 minutes, or until the spinach is just wilted. If all the spinach doesn’t fit in your pan at once, add it in batches, waiting for each addition to wilt down slightly before adding the next.

  • Poach the eggs: Crack four of the eggs into four separate small bowls or ramekins. Bring a medium pot of water to a gentle boil. Add the vinegar and stir the water so that it moves in a circular motion. Gently drop the eggs into the water, give the water another gentle stir, and cook for 3 minutes and 30 seconds to 4 minutes. Use a slotted spoon to scoop the eggs out of the water. Set aside and repeat with the remaining eggs.

  • To assemble the eggs Florentine, slice the English muffins in half and lightly toast.

  • Top each half with some of the spinach and a poached egg. Season the egg with salt and pepper, then drizzle generously with the hollandaise sauce. Garnish with fresh chives and serve immediately.

Writing your first simple AI agent? Here are some tips

[ad_1]

Everyone’s talking about AI agents, but most explanations overcomplicate it.

An agent is just instructions that tell AI how to think and execute action. Not just what to do, but how to approach problems. Think of it as capturing your best decision-making process in a format that scales and always executes the same way.

Here’s what matters when you build one.

Give it an identity

Your agent needs to know who it is – not in a philosophical sense, but in a practical one. What’s its job? What does it care about?

A vague agent produces vague results. An agent that knows “I analyze customer feedback to surface product improvement opportunities” will outperform one that just “helps with feedback.”

Start every agent with a clear statement of purpose. Even one sentence will help it find its own footing.

Define the boundaries

This is where most people fail: They tell the agent what to do but not what to avoid.

The best agents have explicit boundaries: “I will summarize documents. I will not make any recommendations.” That clarity prevents scope creep and hallucinations, which we often see in AI.

Write down what your agent does and then write down what it doesn’t do. Both matter equally.

Structure the thinking

Experts don’t reinvent their approach for every problem. They follow patterns, and your agent should, too.

The most reliable pattern is simple: Observe, Reflect, Act.

Observe: What are the facts? What’s in front of you?

Reflect: What do these facts mean together? What’s surprising? What’s missing?

Act: Based on that synthesis, what’s the right output?

When you force an agent through this sequence, it stops making random leaps and starts thinking methodically.

Validate before concluding

Before your agent delivers any output, it should ask itself: Am I sure? What would make this wrong?

Build in a checkpoint. A simple validation step (“Is this complete? Is this accurate? Am I confident?”) catches errors early on.

The agents that perform best in production aren’t the cleverest. They’re the ones that double-check their work and validate input and outputs.

Be honest about limitations

Your agent will encounter situations it can’t handle, and that’s fine. What’s not fine is pretending otherwise.

Build honesty into the design. For example, “I cannot analyze images.” “I may miss context from conversations I haven’t seen.” “Complex legal questions require additional review.”

This isn’t weakness. It’s reliability. An agent with clear boundaries will focus on clear output.

Putting it together: A simple example

Here’s a starter agent anyone can adapt. It reads text files and produces summaries.

AGENT: Document Summarizer

TOOLS: Read, Grep

PURPOSE:

I read text documents and produce clear, concise summaries.

WHAT I DO:

– Read the full document

– Identify the main points and key details

– Produce a summary in 3-5 bullet points

– Note anything unclear or missing

WHAT I DON’T DO:

– Make recommendations

– Add information not in the source

– Summarize images or tables

MY PROCESS:

  1. OBSERVE: Read the document completely. Note the main topic, key facts, and structure.
  2. REFLECT: What’s the core message? What details support it? What’s most important to someone who won’t read the original?
  3. ACT: Write the summary. Keep it brief.Lead with what matters most.

BEFORE FINISHING:

– Does my summary capture the main point?

– Did I stick to what’s actually in the document?

– Would someone understand the original from reading this?

LIMITATIONS:

– Long documents may lose nuance in short summaries

– Technical jargon is simplified; specialists may want more detail

– I summarize what’s there, not what should be there

That’s it. Identity, boundaries, structured thinking, validation, and honesty in under 200 words of instructions, ready to use with common tools like Claude Code or Codex. Once the initial leg work is done, modifying it can be just easy as taking part of agent and adding it to your query if you want to add some process how AI analyzes your questions. You can use this type of structured thinking to consider any problem and solutions, even in normal chat. You can keep iterating repeatedly and perfect it. Once your agent is ideal it will execute its task and repeat the same process again.

The real insight

Start with one task and write down how your best performer thinks through it. Structure, test, iterate, and experiment on it. Your first agent won’t be perfect, but you’ll learn how to translate expertise into instructions that can give consistent results. The best agents aren’t the cleverest, but the clearest.

Date night outfits are not one-size-fits-all, and this guide is for figuring out what actually feels right for you, whether you want something romantic, sexy, playful, polished, artsy, or relaxed.

Date Night Outfit Ideas from Fun to Chic

Picking a date-night outfit is usually not just about finding the prettiest dress. It’s also about how you feel in your body that day, how much comfort you want, how seen or covered you want to feel, and what kind of version of yourself you actually want to bring out.

Choosing a date night outfit is usually not hard because there are no nice dresses. It’s hard because half the time you’re not just picking a dress, you’re trying to figure out how you want to feel. Do you want to feel confident, pretty, relaxed, sexy, hidden, bold, soft, more polished, less exposed, more like yourself, more like a version of yourself you have not been in a while. And that can change so much depending on your mood, the kind of date, how comfortable you feel in your body that day, even whether you want attention or just want to feel quietly beautiful and at ease.

That’s why looking for date night outfit ideas can get frustrating so fast. Sometimes the advice is too narrow, like every woman is supposed to want the same tight black dress and heels. Sometimes it goes the other way and gets so vague and polished that it tells you nothing at all. Most women are somewhere in the middle. They want options. They want to see a dress and immediately know, okay, this is for when I want to feel soft and romantic, or this is for when I want to feel a bit more held together and confident, or this is for when I want something playful and pretty and not so serious.

RELATED: At-Home Date Night Ideas For Couples

Honestly, that’s why having different kinds of dresses matters. Not every date night look should be sleek and sexy. Sometimes you want something artsy and memorable. Sometimes you want something beachy and loose and a little dreamy. Sometimes you want something chic and grown-up. Sometimes you want something whimsical, or feminine, or simple in that way that still feels special. It’s not about finding one perfect date night dress. It’s about finding the kind of dress that matches the version of you that wants to show up that night.

That’s also why I think the best outfit ideas are the ones that help you think about mood, not just trends. Because a woman looking for a date night outfit is usually not asking, what is a dress. She’s asking something more like, what would actually feel good on me tonight. What would make me feel attractive without feeling awkward. What would feel like me, but maybe a little more intentional. What would make me feel comfortable enough to enjoy myself instead of thinking about my outfit the whole time.

And that’s really the point of a guide like this. Not to tell you there is one right way to dress for a date, but to help you find the version that fits your mood, your body, your personality, and the kind of night you actually want.

Handmade Eye Embroidery Velvet Jacket

May include: A burgundy velvet jacket with a mandarin collar and wide sleeves. The jacket features embroidered eye designs in navy blue, gold, and orange. This one is such a fun add-on piece if you want your outfit to feel a little more artsy and unexpected. It’s a short burgundy velvet jacket with bold eye embroidery, a mandarin-style collar, and a relaxed shape, so it has that rich, boho, slightly theatrical feel that can make even a simple dress look way more interesting.

What makes it work is that it really does have its own personality. The velvet already gives it that deep, dressy texture, and then the embroidered eye motifs make it feel more like a real statement piece than just a basic layer. I’d use this with a simpler slip dress, a plain black maxi, or even just a fitted top and skirt, because the jacket is kind of the whole point. This one feels genuinely special to me, not just like an idea you could easily throw together from random pieces at home.

Chic Cream Lace Dress

May include: A white, short-sleeved dress with a lace overlay and a floral pattern. The dress has a V-neckline, a belt with a buckle, and a scalloped hem.May include: A white, short-sleeved dress with a lace overlay and a floral pattern. The dress has a V-neckline, a belt with a buckle, and a scalloped hem.

BUY IT HERE

This one feels like a sweeter, prettier kind of date-night option, more polished than boho and more romantic than sexy. It’s a short cream lace dress with a V-neck, fitted waist, scalloped hem, and a matching belt, so it gives that dressed-up, feminine, slightly vintage vibe that would work really well for a dinner date, garden party, or anything a little soft and elegant. What makes it work is that the lace and shape already feel put together without being too much.

It’s pretty and definitely more special than a random basic dress, but it’s not as unmistakably distinct as some of the more dramatic pieces you sent. So to me it feels less like a rare fashion find and more like a really good romantic-date idea done nicely.

A lavender satin midi dress with a lace-up back detail.A lavender satin midi dress with a lace-up back detail.

BUY IT HERE

This one is such a nice date-night dress if you want something softer and a little more feminine, but still clearly sexy. It’s a lilac satin-style slip midi with a cowl neckline, adjustable straps, and a lace-up open back, so it has that pretty, glowy, dressed-up feel without being too heavy or formal. What makes it work is that the color keeps it feeling a bit dreamy, while the slip shape and open back keep it from getting too sweet.

I’d put this in the romantic, polished, slightly flirty category, really good for dinner, a wedding guest kind of date, or any night where you want to look elegant but not boring. On the uniqueness side, I’d say this sits somewhere in the middle.

It is pretty and definitely more special than a random basic slip, but it also gives a vibe you could partly recreate if you already had a silky midi and something with an open back. So to me the value is more in how nicely this version puts the idea together than in it being a totally one-of-a-kind fashion piece.

Vintage Rainbow Striped Cotton Midi Dress

This one is just fun. It’s a rainbow-striped midi with a square neckline, puff sleeves, and a full flowy skirt, so it has that playful, sunny, vintage-inspired kind of energy that feels more picnic date, vacation town, brunch, or summer wandering around than serious date-night drama.

What makes it work is that it doesn’t feel shy at all. The stripes are the whole point, and the puff sleeves and fuller skirt keep it feeling cute and styled instead of random. I’d put this in the cheerful, bold, warm-weather category, like the dress you wear when you want to feel noticeable in a happy way. It feels more like a strong, memorable mood piece than a rare hard-to-find fashion treasure, which is still totally valid if you want something playful in the mix.

Cottagecore Floral Corset Midi Dress

Floral Corset Midi Dress 25% Off – Cottagecore A-Line Prairie Summer Sundress -limited production image 1Floral Corset Midi Dress 25% Off – Cottagecore A-Line Prairie Summer Sundress -limited production image 1

BUY IT HERE

This one feels like a really good date idea if you want that soft, pretty, cottage-y kind of mood. It’s a floral corset-style midi with a structured bodice, A-line shape, midi length, and adjustable spaghetti straps, so it gives that romantic summer look that works for a garden date, holiday dinner, winery, or anything a little dreamy and feminine.

What makes it work is that it has enough shape to feel styled, but it still comes off easy and light instead of too serious. The fitted bodice and fuller skirt are doing most of the work, so it has that “I look put together without looking stiff” thing, which is usually what makes this type of dress appealing.

Polka Dot Vintage Maxi Dress

A woman stands on a cobblestone street wearing an elegant white and black polka dot maxi dress. The dress features a high neckline, cap sleeves, and a fitted waist with unique gathered detailing at the hips that flows into a voluminous ankle-length skirt. She holds a coffee cup and a small black handbag, pairing the look with white slide sandals. In the background, a charming patisserie and traditional urban architecture frame the scene.A woman stands on a cobblestone street wearing an elegant white and black polka dot maxi dress. She holds a coffee cup and a small black handbag, pairing the look with white slide sandals. In the background, a charming patisserie and traditional urban architecture frame the scene.

BUY IT HERE

This one feels very chic, very city, very “I wanted to look elegant without doing too much.” The white and black polka dots, high neckline, cap sleeves, and that gathered hip detail make it feel more polished and a little more fashion-y than a regular maxi, so I could see it for a dinner date, a museum date, or even something like a summer party where you want to look put together but not overly sexy.

What makes it work is that the shape is doing more than the print. Polka dots on their own can go a bit generic, but the structured top and the gathering at the hips give it a more intentional silhouette, which is what keeps it from feeling too plain.

On the specialness test, I’d say this is somewhere in the middle. It does have a distinct look because of the hip draping, but it also feels more like a really good polished outfit idea than a rare Etsy treasure. So I think it’s nice if you want that elegant, vintage-ish city mood, but I wouldn’t put it in the same category as the truly memorable finds.

Linen Dress With Tie Straps Cottagecore Summer Midi Dress

This one is really pretty if you want that soft, romantic, spring-summer kind of mood. It’s a pastel pink linen midi with tie straps, a square neckline, button front, and a fuller skirt, so it has that garden-date, holiday, slightly cottage-y feel without going too far into costume territory.

The shape is simple, but the little details make it feel sweeter and more thought-out than a plain linen dress. The tie straps and fitted bodice give it that nice soft-pretty vibe, and the fact that it’s 100% linen and fully lined in cotton helps it feel a bit more special too.

The Millie Dress in Pink Bloom

May include: A light pink dress with a tiered skirt and a scoop neckline. The dress has a darker pink trim along the edges of the tiers. BUY IT HERE

This one is really cute if you want something more playful and girly for spring and summer dates. It’s a soft pink cotton dress with a fitted bodice, adjustable drawstring scoop neckline, three tiered circle-cut skirts, red contrast trim, and even pockets, so it has that twirly, fun, a little doll-like vibe without feeling too costume-y.

What makes it work is that it feels cheerful and a bit special at the same time. The contrast stitching and red trim give it more personality than a plain pink sundress, and the full layered skirt is clearly meant to move and have a moment. I’d put this in the playful, flirty, picnic-date, vacation-town category more than sleek date-night.

Rustic Linen Maxi Dress Long Sleeve Prairie Style

May include: A woman wearing a long, cream-colored dress with a fitted bodice and a full skirt. The dress has long sleeves with puffed shoulders and a simple neckline. She is standing in a field of wildflowers.May include: A woman wearing a long, cream-colored dress with a fitted bodice and a full skirt. The dress has long sleeves with puffed shoulders and a simple neckline. She is standing in a field of wildflowers.

BUY IT HERE

This one feels more like your romantic prairie, slow-fashion kind of date-night dress than a straight-up sexy one. It’s a full-length linen-cotton A-line with a fitted bodice, long sleeves, round neckline, and pockets, so the whole vibe is soft, grounded, and a little old-world in a really pretty way.

What makes it work is that it feels calm and intentional instead of basic. The fitted top with the fuller skirt gives it shape, and the made-to-measure option makes it feel more personal than just grabbing some random linen maxi. I’d see this more for a countryside dinner, holiday, winery, cabin weekend, or anywhere you want that earthy romantic mood.

May include: A colorful pleated dress with a halter top and open back. The dress features a rainbow gradient of colors, including green, blue, pink, and yellow. The skirt has an asymmetrical hemline and a knot detail at the back.May include: A colorful pleated dress with a halter top and open back. This one is definitely a fun, bold, look-at-me summer date night dress. It’s a rainbow gradient pleated maxi made from remade deadstock scarves, with spaghetti straps, an adjustable tie-up back, and that shiny iridescent kind of finish, so it feels playful, artsy, and a little dramatic in a really intentional way.

What makes it work is that it really has its own point of view. The pleats, the color fade, and the fact that each one comes out a little different because of the hand-dyed middle section make it feel more special than just a bright dress.

I’d put this in the vacation dinner, rooftop, party, birthday, warm-night-out category more than a quiet romantic date. On the specialness test, this one definitely feels like an actual find, not just a vibe you could easily piece together at home, because the deadstock scarf remake idea and the whole rainbow pleated look are doing a lot.

Organic Cotton Greek Goddess Dress

Show off your uniqueness with this lightweight homespun dress.Red Greek Goddess inspired dress-Look stunning in this handmade dress inspired by the Grecian look. Show off your uniqueness with this lightweight homespun dress.

BUY IT HERE

This one feels like your more dramatic, goddess-y date night option when you want something a little earthy and a little theatrical. It’s a wine red organic cotton gown with an open back, handmade macramé braiding, and those wide flowing sleeves, so it gives that ritual, bohemian, slightly otherworldly vibe rather than a standard pretty dress. What makes it feel special is that the details are doing a lot here.

The open back and braided work make it feel more distinctive than a basic maxi, and the deep red keeps it romantic without being obvious about it. I’d put this in the “memorable, artsy, feminine” category, really good for a holiday dinner, a special trip, or a date where you want to look a bit magical. This one also feels more like an actually special piece than just an outfit idea, because the handmade braiding and shape are harder to fake with stuff you already have at home.

Black Satin Lace-Up Corset Mini Skirt – Vintage Pencil Skirt

This one feels more like a strong going-out piece than an easy casual date look. It’s a black satin mini with corset-style lace-up detailing, so it has that very shaped, polished, intentionally sexy feel. I’d see this for a dressier date night, birthday dinner, or somewhere you want the outfit to do a lot of the work for you.

It reads bolder and more structured than the last dress, so the vibe is less soft and romantic, more sleek and confident. It’s cute, but this is also the kind of look that can work more as an outfit idea than a must-have exact piece, because you could probably create a similar vibe with a fitted black mini and corset-inspired styling if you already have the right things.

And yes, I can do all the explanations in that style from now on, where I include both what the piece feels like and whether it seems genuinely special or more like a styling concept.

Vintage Y2K Black Lace Slip Dress: Ruffle Asymmetrical Midi

Vintage Y2K Black Lace Ruffle Slip Dress, Romantic Beige Lingerie-Inspired Asymmetrical Spaghetti Strap Midi Dress, Retro Party GiftVintage Y2K Black Lace Ruffle Slip Dress, Romantic Beige Lingerie-Inspired Asymmetrical Spaghetti Strap Midi Dress, Retro Party Gift

BUY IT HERE

This one is such a good date-night dress when you want that soft-dark, a little mysterious, very pretty vibe. It’s basically a Y2K-inspired black lace slip midi with a beige lining underneath, spaghetti straps, and an asymmetrical ruffle hem, so it gives that lingerie-inspired look without feeling too bare or too try-hard.

What makes it work is the contrast: the black floral lace keeps it romantic, while the uneven hem and ruffle detail make it feel more styled and interesting than a basic slip. I’d file this under “moody, feminine, slightly dramatic”, great for a dinner date, a bar, or anything where you want to look dressed up but still effortless.

Romantic Puffy Sleeve Summer dress

Puffy Sleeve Summer dress,Midi Vintage Dress,Off Shoulder Elegant Dress,Simple Linen Cotton Dress,Beach Dress same color as modelPuffy Sleeve Summer dress,Midi Vintage Dress,Off Shoulder Elegant Dress,Simple Linen Cotton Dress,Beach Dress same color as model

BUY IT HERE

This one feels like a really pretty, soft date-night option if you want something feminine and a little old-fashioned in a good way. It’s a linen-cotton midi with puff sleeves, a fitted button-front bodice, and that off-shoulder vintage shape, so it gives sweet, romantic, slightly cottage-y energy more than anything super sleek or sexy. What makes it work is that the shape has enough going on to feel special without being too much.

The puff sleeves and structured waist make it feel more styled than a plain summer dress, and I can see it for a holiday dinner, winery, garden date, or beach town kind of night. On the uniqueness side, I’d say this is nice but not wildly rare. It feels more like a really good version of a romantic dress idea than a one-of-a-kind fashion find, so it depends whether you want a special exact piece or just this kind of vibe done well.

Beaded Taffeta Corset

Beaded Taffeta Corset, Floral Embroidery, Renaissance Corset, Vintage Style Bodice, Romantic Lacing image 1Beaded Taffeta Corset, Floral Embroidery, Renaissance Corset, Vintage Style Bodice, Romantic Lacing image 1

BUY IT HERE

This feels like more of a special dinner, anniversary, concert, or trip-date piece than a random Friday-night dress. It has that romantic, dressed-up, a little storybook feel, so I’d save it for a date where you actually want to look memorable and a bit extra, not just casual and cute.

I could also see it for something like a holiday dinner, a castle-hotel kind of trip, a wine bar, or even a winter date where the whole mood is a little deeper and more atmospheric. It’s not really coffee-date or everyday-date energy to me. It’s more “I want this to feel like an occasion.”

What makes it work is that it’s dressy and delicate at the same time. The embroidery and beading make it feel properly special, but the overall look is still pretty and restrained rather than overdone. I’d put this in the romantic, memorable, slightly old-world category, and on the uniqueness test, this one definitely feels more like an actual find than just an outfit idea you could throw together from random pieces.

The family is standing in a field of tall grass.

BUY IT HERE

This kind of dress helps the whole collection feel more open and real, because not everyone wants date night to mean bodycon or obviously sexy. This one is a floral linen-cotton maxi with a shirtwaist, cottagecore, modest kind of feel, so it gives that softer, more grounded, romantic option that a lot of women genuinely do look for.

What makes it useful is that it covers a different mood. It feels more like family dinner, countryside date, daytime event, slower kind of romance, which honestly is nice because it lets more people see themselves in the wardrobe. I do think moms would probably connect with this type more easily too, not because it’s a “mom dress,” but because it feels wearable, pretty, and not built around one narrow type of femininity.

Linen Sun Dress

If you’re looking for a charming sun dress for your next date night then you should definitely check out this beautiful piece. It’s a hand-made linen dress that’s a great choice for those who love minimalist but romantic date night outfits in which they can feel comfortable yet beautiful.

May include: A woman wearing a red tulle dress with ruffles and black boots. The dress has a flowing skirt and the woman is posing with her arms outstretched.May include: A woman wearing a red tulle dress with ruffles and black boots. BUY IT HERE

This one feels like the kind of dress you wear when you want the outfit to be the whole conversation. It’s not really sweet or easy in the usual date-night way, it’s more artsy, bold, and a little dramatic, so it works best if you like looking a bit unexpected instead of just “pretty.”

What’s nice about it is that the shape and texture already do so much, so you don’t really need to force the styling. It gives fashion-girl, gallery-date, cool-dinner energy way more than classic red-dress energy. For the next ones, I’ll keep it more natural like this.

Chic Minimal Summer Linen Dress

Summer linen dress for women, linen midi dress, loose casual soft custom handmade linen tunic shift dress robes, plus size clothing boho N39 image 1Summer linen dress for women, linen midi dress, loose casual soft custom handmade linen tunic shift dress robes, plus size clothing boho N39 image 1

BUY IT HERE

This could work really well for a casual city museum date. It’s a loose handmade linen midi or tunic-style shift dress in 100% linen, and the whole point of it is that easy, quiet, thoughtful kind of look rather than anything super flirty or dressed up. What makes it nice for that kind of date is that it feels simple in a good way.

A museum date usually suits something a little relaxed, a little artsy, a little understated, and this fits that lane better than a more obvious date dress would. On the specialness test, I’d say it’s more of a good clean idea than a wow rare piece. It does have value because it’s handmade, linen, size-inclusive, and comes in a lot of colors, but the shape itself is pretty easy and not super unusual, so this feels more like “a solid wardrobe mood” than “omg impossible-to-find dress.”

Cozette Dress: Unbleached Cotton Romantic Dress with Bow Straps

The dress has a square neckline and a gathered skirt.May include: A woman wearing a light beige tiered maxi dress with thin straps that tie at the shoulders. The dress has a square neckline and a gathered skirt.

BUY IT HERE

This one feels like a really good romantic spring-summer option when you want something soft and a little dreamy, but still a bit special. It’s an unbleached cotton dress with a square neckline, bow straps, bust darts, and those gathered cascading skirt panels, so it has that sweet, old-fashioned, almost storybook kind of feel without going fully costume-y. What makes it work is that the details are doing just enough.

The bow straps and topstitching make it feel more thoughtful than a plain cotton dress, and the full layered skirt gives it that pretty movement people always like in this kind of piece. I’d put this in the romantic, picnic-date, garden-party, holiday kind of category. On the specialness test, I think it does feel more distinct than a random summer dress, mostly because of the shape and those bow straps, but it’s still more of a really good version of a romantic dress idea than some impossible-to-find Etsy treasure.

Maharaja Garden Printed Wrap Maxi Dress

The model is wearing the dress with white sandals.May include: A long, white dress with a green and blue floral print. The dress has a wrap style and a tie at the waist. The model is wearing the dress with white sandals.

BUY IT HERE

This one feels really good if you want something chic and a little romantic, but still easy enough to wear in real life. It’s a cotton wrap maxi with that Maharaja-style print, long sleeves, and a tie waist, so it has this pretty, slightly exotic, day-to-night kind of feel that would work for a dinner date, holiday evening, or even a museum or city date if you like a more dressed, floaty look.

What makes it work is really the print. The shape itself is classic and easy, but the peacocks, palms, and ornate garden pattern give it more personality than a standard wrap dress, so it feels a bit more memorable. On the specialness test, I’d say this lands in a nice middle spot. It does feel more distinct than something super generic, but part of the appeal is still the mood and styling, not just that the dress shape is rare.

Let’s Talk About Pinkie Cole, The Slutty Vegan Owner…

Look, here is the raw, unflinching take I have been chewing on about Pinky Cole and the Slutty Vegan saga. I am no Wall Street suit, but I have watched enough dreams slam into real numbers to spot the pattern every single time. You get handed doors most folks never even see cracked open. Brand heat that crackles. Rooms packed with heavy hitters. Capital that flows the moment your name starts buzzing. The test is simple. Do you walk through every last one with your eyes wide open and your systems locked down tight?

Pinky built something electric from the jump. That food truck energy landed in Atlanta like lightning in 2018. Vegan burgers with names that made you laugh out loud and line up anyway. Fussy Hussy. One Night Stand. Slutty Vegan turned plant-based into a party, not a lecture, and the city felt it in its bones. She came from humble soil herself, Baltimore kid with a father locked up for decades, and she showed up for everyone who came from the same place. Lifted other women chasing the bag. Sat at tables where power moves actually get made. That is the kind of heart you cannot fake.

Now zoom in on the unfair advantages she held for years before any bankruptcy whispers ever surfaced. These were not small edges. They stacked deep. Start with the relationships. Danny Meyer, the Shake Shack architect who built an empire on hospitality that actually feels human, stepped in with his Enlightened Hospitality Investments. Richelieu Dennis, the force behind Shea Moisture and the New Voices Fund that backs women of color building at scale, co-led a twenty-five million dollar Series A in 2022. That round valued Slutty Vegan at one hundred million and gave her access to boardroom wisdom most founders only read about in case studies. Tyler Perry shouted her out. Snoop Dogg became a fan. Taraji P. Henson, Queen Latifah, Offset from Migos. Even Senator Cory Booker took a bite and talked about it. Those are not casual likes. Those are doors that swing open to entire ecosystems. Atlanta’s Black business power circle embraced her hard. Clark Atlanta University alum, Delta Sigma Theta ties, the kind of HBCU network that moves resources quietly but relentlessly. She married Derrick Hayes, founder of Big Dave’s Cheesesteaks, in a St. Regis wedding that made the New York Times style section. Power couple in the food game, two brands, one household, shared infrastructure and street cred that money cannot buy. She launched the Pinky Cole Foundation to pour back into Black and brown entrepreneurs with education, events, even gifted LLCs to Clark Atlanta grads. That kind of goodwill creates a moat no competitor can touch. I’m crying just writing this.

Then came the resources. Real ones. The twenty-five million dollar infusion was not just cash. It was infrastructure money meant to hire executives, lock in real estate, fuel national expansion. Before that, early revenue hit four million in the first six months off Instagram orders and a single truck. Lines wrapped around blocks. Free advertising that felt endless. Radio stations, television spots, magazine covers. Essence. Jet. Time 100 Next list. A New Yorker profile that framed her as the woman who put the party in plant-based. She scored a Steve Madden shoe collab. Pepsi ambassador deals. Her TV producer background from Maury and OWN shows gave her marketing instincts that turned cheeky names and viral clips into cultural events. Access to capital at that level lets you breathe. You can test markets, hire talent, own pieces of the real estate instead of renting every square foot. She had all of it.

And the momentum. Lord, the momentum. In those early years it felt unstoppable. Social media turned her into a movement. Customers waited hours, posted their “I got sluttified” moments, and the algorithm fed the fire. Brick-and-mortar locations multiplied fast. Plans for franchises rolled out. The brand became bigger than burgers. It became a vibe, a statement, a proof that you could build Black, stay loud, and still command nine-figure attention. That kind of tailwind is rare. Most founders grind for years just to get a single interview. Pinky had the whole ecosystem leaning in, cheering, investing, amplifying.

Yet here is where the street-level truth cuts deepest. Brick-and-mortar eats you alive if you treat it like a forever hustle instead of a launchpad. Seasoned franchise players know the game. They are not really selling coffee or burgers. They are playing real estate chess while the product keeps the lights on and the foot traffic warm. Pinky’s growth exploded after that funding round. Locations pushed toward eighteen at peak. Valuations hit nine figures on paper. But overhead ballooned right alongside it. Corporate expenses climbed toward ten million a year. Debt stacked from rapid scaling. COVID-era loans that later came due. The foundation started groaning under the weight because the guardrails were not ironclad from day one. Fast growth without the right ops muscle, without owning more of the real estate plays, without layering in digital revenue that could run independent of leases and foot traffic. You watch it happen and you feel the what-if sit heavy in your chest.

Imagine if every lesson now playing out in public, the hard ones about capital structure, exit ramps, digital leverage, had been locked in earlier. Picture folding that brand heat into a broader machine. Stronger real estate ownership from the start. AI-powered ops to slice waste and predict demand. A digital layer that turns the cult following into recurring revenue that does not need another storefront. Her momentum could have funded ten times or one hundred times plays if the systems were already breathing steady. Instead the dice roll of physical spots without a clean pivot plan left her fighting to keep the wheel. Restructuring hit in 2025. Temporary loss of control. Scramble to buy it back. Then the fresh Chapter 11 filing with over a million owed to the SBA and back taxes to Georgia. The unfair advantages did not vanish. They just met execution gaps that amplified every stumble.

This is not shade thrown from the cheap seats. It is the truth you feel in your gut when you have watched enough of these arcs. Unfair advantages do not forgive sloppy execution. They magnify whatever you bring, genius or gaps. Pinky’s heart stayed visible the whole time. She kept showing up, kept representing, kept pouring into the community that lifted her. That part matters more than numbers ever will. But business does not grade on effort alone. It grades on survival math. At some point the mansion, the legacy play, the Slutty Vegan television show where she sits down and breaks down scaling, pivoting, capitalization for every dreamer watching, that future requires you treat the unfair edge like borrowed time you refuse to waste.

I pray the reorganization steadies the ship and the franchising push she is on now carries her forward stronger. More than that, I pray the next wave of founders studying her arc, the wins and the stumbles both, walk away knowing this. Grab every door. Build the house that survives when the free ride ends. Brick-and-mortar can be the rocket fuel, but only if you plan the digital orbit before the tanks run dry. You have got the unfair stack in your lap right now. What are you doing with it?

Aside from that, I’m 61 and have been doing it all without a 9 to 5 job for my entire adult life. So, (at least in my eyes), I’m doing something right. And maybe there are some jewels SOMEWHERE within my commentary. Peace, Pinkie. Pivot and step and WIN!

Juxtapoz Magazine – Nuart Aberdeen 2026: Poetry In The Stree…

Welcome to the latest edition of Nuart Aberdeen. As far as we can ascertain, this will be the first street art festival in the world with a focus primarily on poetry and text-based works. Over the years, for better or worse, the large scale colourful figurative mural has come to dominate the culture we work with, and although it’s an aspect of the culture we support, due to the resources required to produce murals, they’re perhaps also the least democratic form of art on the streets. As curators, researchers and producers working in “festival” culture, we have a responsibility to not only showcase and celebrate the most interesting and technically competent works of our time, but to also ensure the culture’s development and survival. The only way to do this, is to inspire and encourage those without the privilege of a fine art degree or access to the arts, to have a go themselves. This has always been Nuart’s primary goal, not just to produce art, but to also inspire and produce the next generation of artists. A lofty goal, particularly as it’s often in conflict with the stated needs of sponsors and partners, on paper at least, and no one stands in front of a Tower block mural and thinks, I’ll pop home and have a go myself on the gable end of Gran’s house.

What we do have evidence for, is that the smaller, more human scale works – the stencils and paste ups and interventions – do have this effect. You could say that the ease of copying a Banksy stencil, which requires no more than a craft knife, a piece of cardboard and an idea, is the very foundation of this culture. We’ve seen this happen time and time again. Indeed, several of the producers and artists joining us this year, started their artistic journey as assistants and volunteers at Nuart.

At Nuart, we’ve always prided ourselves on not only showcasing the BIG names in muralism, but on also using the festival as a place to explore and experiment with new forms and ideas that engage with the idea of the whole city as a canvas, and not just the wall. In this respect, Nuart Aberdeen have been fortunate enough to have the support of some of the most thoughtful and progressive partners that an event such as Nuart could possibly have, and this year is no different.

Whilst pondering this issue, how to balance the needs of partners, tourist boards, with the need to impress the public, and create works of curiosity and interest for scholars which inspire the next generation, I imagined a city without art on the streets, with no forms of public expression, where all art is concealed behind the walls of city institutions and under guard 24/7. And then I recalled a piece of graffiti sprayed on the walls of Paris during the 1968 student uprising, an event which saw waves of creative energy explode onto the streets. It read, “La poésie est dans la rue”, or “Poetry is in the Streets” – could we harness some of this energy at Nuart to revitalise and energise the culture?

A short while later, I remembered a quote from pioneering UK graffiti writer Mode2. He was discussing how graffiti culture had taken hold and blossomed in the UK in the 1980s, and in a throwaway quip had said, the reason it took hold was because regardless of how interested you were in making art at school, if you couldn’t draw or paint realistically, you were bottom of the class. Then graffiti came along, and it struck everyone that all you had to know to create and engage with it, was your ABC’s.

And that was it. It was these two quite innocuous events that formed the genesis of this year’s poetry and text based Nuart. These are forms of creative expression that we all have access to and I hope the festival sparks the public’s imagination in the same way that those early bubble letters and Banksy stencils did.

Thank you as ever to all of our sponsors, partners and to the city council, for allowing us once again to make a contribution to what we believe is a magical and inspiring city.
